THE villagers in the Lau group have not been affected whatsoever by the drugs last year.

Roko Tui Lau, Maikeli Waqatabu made the assurance in an interview at the Lau Provincial Council meeting yesterday.

Mr Waqatabu said the issue of cocaine that was found in the lower Southern Lau, was raised in the tikina (district) council meetings and was also raised in the last provincial council meeting in April in Tubou.

Mr Waqatabu said the villagers in Lau who found the drugs on the shores did not know that cocaine was in the packages.

“Some of them found it off shore, they took it to their homes, some of them hid it and as it was reported to Suva, the directive from the Fiji Police Force for them to take it to the nearest Police station or post officer for it to be taken straight back to Suva,” Mr Waqatabu said.

He said the cocaine that was found in Oneata, as when it was found one of the navy vessels directly took it from Oneata to Suva.
