THE equal distribution of lease money for the iTaukei people has been decreed.
iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) manager Central/Eastern Division, Ela Manuku made the comment while answering a question raised during the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, iTaukei Affairs Board, iTaukei Land Trust Board public consultation at Burebasaga Village in Rewa on Friday night.
Burebasaga tikina rep Solomone Tuinasau queried why the lease distribution was done evenly between the head of the clan (turaga ni yavusa) and a newborn.
Mr Tuinasau asked what the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs’ stand was on the distribution of the lease money and inquired if this was a motive that was brought about by foreigners in trying to weaken the financial opportunities of the iTaukei people.
Mr Manuku said the equal distribution of lease was a law approved by Government, known as the Equal Distribution Decree.
He said in the decree, TLTB had been instructed to share the lease money equally.
He added there were trustees who were selected to share equally the lease money to the people provided that paperwork from the iTaukei people was available.
He said the provinces of Ba, Bua, Cakaudrove and Kadavu had been given the green light for their lease money to be distributed.
