The village of Muani in Kadavu is set to begin the harvesting of pine.

This follows the arrival of forest harvest machines.

The Ministry of Forestry and Fisheries said a total of 16 vehicles and heavy machines were offloaded, supported by a 30-man logging crew.

The forest harvesting machines from logging contractors, Drelaga Holding Ltd and Burning Bush Pte Ltd, were offloaded at the shores of Muani Village via Genesi Shipping Barge Services last Friday.

The pine harvesting operation is conducted by Fiji Pine Trust with barge subsidy support from government through the Commercial Maritime Pine Subsidy.

Meanwhile, works on the forward roading into the Muani Pine Scheme has begun.

Work on the Muani Port, is expected to be completed this week, with only 10 meters remaining to complete the causeway.

The proposed loading date is set for June 1.
