ROKOVUAKA Village in Ra now has a fully inclusive, purpose-built multipurpose evacuation centre to strengthen disaster preparedness and protect vulnerable communities in times of crisis.

The centre, officially opened yesterday, was constructed under the Strengthening National and Community Resilience to Displacement Risks in the Republic of Fiji project, a national initiative led by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in partnership with the Government and key stakeholders.

Minister for Rural and Maritime Development Sakiasi Ditoka said the facility was a key outcome of the national disaster preparedness framework.

He said the project reflected the power of collaboration across local, national, and international levels.

Rokovuaka was selected as one of eight priority locations for the project, following detailed vulnerability and displacement risk assessments across more than 30 sites in Fiji.

The centre was funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and delivered in collaboration with the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO), the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Save the Children Fiji and local stakeholders.
