THE Vunayasi District School playground in Nadi will support Dratabu Village’s kindergarten, rugby union, netball teams and other sporting groups that will now have a safe place to train, says Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.

Officiating at the commissioning of the newly-redeveloped playground, Mr Rabuka said the children and area’s sportsmen and women would no longer have to travel far for training sessions, saving time while strengthening community engagement.

“The total cost of the playground development is $48,790, funded through the Office of the Prime Minister,” he said.

“This investment supports the school’s request for a dedicated recreational and sporting space, a space that will encourage physical activity, improve mental wellbeing, and create an environment where children can learn through play.”

Mr Rabuka said the project reflected the Government’s commitment to people-centred development.

“While we continue to address major national infrastructure and macro-level policies, we also invest strongly in small community projects because we know these have a direct impact on people’s daily lives.”

Mr Rabuka noted the school had produced some of Fiji’s best athletes such as Olympians Kitione Taliga and Samisoni Viriviri.
