Former radio and television personality Malakai Gucake has been remembered as a kind-hearted and respected broadcaster who touched the lives of many through his work and friendship.
His long-time colleague and friend Taitusi John shared an emotional tribute on social media after visiting the hospital to pay his last respects.
John recalled the decades they worked together — first at FBC in the 1990s and later at Fiji TV, where both hosted popular morning shows.
“Mala and I worked together for many, many years — from the early days of radio at FBC in the ’90s to our time at Fiji TV, each hosting our own morning shows,” he said.
He described Mr Gucake as a man who “cared for everyone, whether you were close to him or not.”
“He treated people with warmth and respect, always ready with wise advice and that unmistakable sense of humour that made him so loved,”
“His passion for his craft was evident in the way he connected with his viewers and everyone around him.”
“We will surely miss you, dearest Mala — your laughter, your kindness, and your generous spirit. Rest in love, dear brother.”
