Veteran boxer Krishna Sami is gearing up for an anticipated rematch with Hazrath Ali in the upcoming Bluewater Boxing Promotion at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva on March 2.

In their first encounter at the South Pacific Boxing Promotion earlier this month, the bout ended in a draw, with Sami acknowledging that a minor injury prevented him from securing a win.

With boxing being his favourite sport, he is determined to be better prepared this time.

Participating in the South Pacific Boxing Promotion was a significant achievement for Sami, 56, who sees a growing interest in the sport within Fiji’s boxing community.

Reflecting on this, he expressed; “It was a great achievement for me to participate in the South Pacific Boxing promotion.

“I saw the entire boxing community in Fiji increasing with a lot of local boxers joining the sport as well as boxers abroad are supporting us, this is a beautiful sport for me,” Sami said.

Promoter Sameer Khan has approached the two veteran boxers for a rematch on March 2, and Sami is excited for the opportunity.

“I work hard, I see that age is just a number, we will prepare well for the March 2 fight, our second meet, boxing work so well for me,” explained Sami.

Looking ahead to the next year, Sami is determined to be prepared for any tournament, vowing to showcase improved skills. “Come next year I will be prepared for any tournament whoever my opponent will be, it will be brighter and sharper.

“I have to admit my last fight I had minor injuries, so I limited my training but this time I will train hard and showcase a good display of boxing,” Sami challenged himself.

Beyond boxing, Sami is multi-talented, engaging in singing religious songs, playing soccer in his spare time, and participating in various social activities.

Despite his diverse interests, boxing has become his standout passion.

With 25 years in the marketing field, currently serving as the Sales and Marketing Manager for Tappoo Wholesale Western, Sami believes boxing has made him a star.

“I’ve been singing a lot of religious songs. I’ve been playing a lot of soccer. I’ve been doing a lot of social activities you combine all this, boxing has surpassed them. I’ve been into sales and marketing field for the last 25 years. I’ve been in the field from when I was 16 years old, a very well-known person but boxing has made me a star.”

His biggest motivators are his four children, aged between 25-30 years , who have been a constant source of support. ”

The biggest motivators are my children. I have four boys, and I thank them for their support,’ Sami concluded.”
