The Fiji Meteorological Service has recorded significant rainfall across several parts of the country over the past 24 hours, increasing the risk of flooding in vulnerable and downstream areas.

According to rainfall data recorded between 3am yesterday and 3am today, the highest totals were observed in the interior and western parts of Viti Levu.

Rainfall recorded (mm) Nadarivatu: 248.5, Navala: 223.5, Nanoko: 179.5, Waikubukubu: 163.0, Monasavu: 134.0 and Lautoka: 101.0

Weather officials say the heavy rainfall is linked to persistent rainbands associated with unsettled weather conditions affecting the Fiji Group.

The Fiji Meteorological Service has warned that continued rainfall could lead to flash flooding and riverine flooding, particularly in low-lying, flood-prone areas and along river catchments downstream of affected interior regions.

Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant, avoid flooded roads and river crossings, and continue following all official weather warnings and advisories as conditions evolve.
