The high number of athletes wanting to participate at zonal meets saw the Veiuto Primary School organise a inter-class athletics competition at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday.
Head teacher Ken Kafoa said it was good to see the interest as the school wanted to field the best for the zone-meet.
“We are only able to have inter-classes competitions because of the large number of students, which will make it difficult for us to have an inter-house as a whole,” he said.
Meanwhile, parents and former students of the school gathered in big numbers at the stadium in Suva for the competition as it was encouraging to see the huge turnout from parents, supporters, and former students at the stadium to witness the competition.
“It’s very encouraging to see so many parents, supporters and former students come out and watch our children participate during our Inter-Class competition here at the HFC Bank Stadium,” Kafoa said.
“From classes one to four, we have four streams and three streams for the other four classes.”
Kafoa said the school would be selecting athletes to represent the school at the zone meet.
“But with the way things are going, I don’t think there will be any nationals.”
Athletes from Year 1 to Year 5 in their school colours took part in various track and field events despite the rainy weather.
“The athletes and students are all very excited to be taking part in the competition, and we are happy because everything went smoothly.”
