AN agreement signed between Government and the Fiji Taxi Association states the entire taxi industry is bound by the taxi fare increase with value added tax included.
According to the agreement, all taxis operating in Fiji have the same fare rate except for those on smaller islands and the two major airports.
All taxi fares, despite different operators, charge VAT inclusive prices.
The agreement states that “taxis operating from Nausori and Nadi airports shall have the flag of $5 for trips originating within the airports to any destination outside these airports at any time on any day”.
A flagfall of $1.70 applied to taxis operating on Ovalau, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and Kadavu.
Regent Taxis Ltd managing director Harris Chandra says all taxi operators fares are VAT inclusive and no taxi operator is charging VAT exclusive prices.
