Fiji Day celebrations was not only a time of reflection about the nation’s 53 years of history but also about envisioning a brighter future.
These were the words of Rural and Maritime Development Assistant Minister, Jovesa Vocea during the Fiji Day celebration that was held at Subrail Park in Labasa last week.
The streets of Labasa were filled with a sea of blue as many Fijians turned up to celebrate the annual event with a march.
He reminded students to be proud of their Fijian heritage as the nation celebrated 53 years of independence.
Speaking at the Fiji Day celebration at Subrail Park in Labasa, Mr Vocea said he was pleased to see children join their parents in the march through town – marking the independence day.
“Today’s celebration is for people of Fiji and the contributions that they have made to make Fiji what it is today,” he said.
Mr Vocea also took the time to remind the crowd that 60,000 people would benefit from the $US200 million ($F456m) Tourism Development Project in Vanua Levu.
He added that the funding included plans to upgrade Labasa and Savusavu airports.
“These projects are only the tip of the iceberg of the developments earmarked for Vanua Levu by Government.”
Many enjoyed the entertainment and hearty morning tea provided.
