Update: 12:15PM SUGAR permanent secretary Lieutenant Colonel Manasa Vaniqi passed away at the Lautoka Hospital on Thursday after a short illness.
He was instrumental in reforms undertaken to revive the sugar industry and played a significant role in renewing cane land leases and in trying to address labour and transport issues, a major concern for cane growers in the country.
