Minister for Justice and Acting Attorney-General Siromi Turaga has commended the successful prosecution of Fiji’s largest-ever drug case, following the sentencing of nine individuals linked to the $2 billion methamphetamine bust.
Speaking after the verdicts were delivered at the Lautoka High Court today, Minister Turaga acknowledged the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and the Fiji Police Force for their critical roles in bringing the historic case to a successful conclusion.
“Illicit drugs represent one of the gravest threats to Fiji’s future. Today’s sentences send a clear and uncompromising message: those who choose to profit from poisoning our communities will face the full force of the law,” he said.
“I commend the Office of the DPP and the Fiji Police for their steadfast pursuit of justice in bringing this case to conclusion.”
“The Ministry stands with our Judiciary, our law enforcement agencies, and the people of Fiji in protecting families and young people from the scourge of drugs.”
He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to further strengthening anti-drug efforts.
“This outcome is not only a triumph for justice—it is a strong deterrent.”
