Even with a young side, the USP Raiders managed to pull off a win against Vusu Raiders in the FNRL Women’s Premiership competition yesterday.

Despite the 20-10 win, Raiders coach Asaeli Saravaki said there were a handful of areas they needed to work on.

“The girls managed to put out a good performance today and I am proud of the way they held their line against a very strong team,” he said.

“We were unable to complete a few of our sets, and this cost us a few opportunities where we could have put more points on the board.”

Saravaki says they will be going back to their play-book, and will be working on their weaknesses ahead of their next game this weekend against the Nadi Eels.

“We’ll go through out weaknesses this week and we will come back much better next Saturday. Defence was one of our major weaknesses, where the girls have to work on falling back into line after a tackle has been made.

“Majority of our players are students either in high school or university, and have a hard time balancing their studies and training.”

He also thanked all their supporters who showed up to the Bidesi Grounds to support the team.

“Our supporters are very important to us and we thank you all for coming out to cheer for the girls.”
