The University of the South Pacific (USP) has begun an international search for its next Vice-Chancellor and President, describing the role as a critical leadership position for the region’s premier higher education institution.
The Vice-Chancellor and President, who reports to the University Council, serves as the chief executive officer and principal academic leader of the university.
In an advertisement, USP said the appointment presents a rare opportunity to guide the institution at a pivotal time as it focuses on institutional transformation, financial sustainability and strengthening Pacific knowledge systems.
USP said the next Vice-Chancellor will be responsible for providing visionary and inclusive leadership across the university’s geographically dispersed campuses while strengthening research in key areas such as climate change, ocean and environmental sciences, health, governance and sustainable development.
The successful candidate is expected to have extensive senior leadership experience in a large and complex institution, strong strategic and financial management capabilities and a proven record of institutional transformation and innovation.
The Vice-Chancellor will also serve as USP’s key advocate with member governments, regional organisations and international development partners.
The position will be based at the university’s Laucala Campus in Suva, with the successful candidate expected to reside primarily in Fiji.
The recruitment is being managed by international agency Perrett Laver.
Applications for the position will close on May 4.
