IT was a momentous achievement for the Solomon Islands team Uso Tasi as they secured a spot in the highly anticipated 2026 McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s.
In a thrilling final match against Yalovata Spearhead, Uso Tasi emerged victorious with a 19-15 win at the Super 7s tournament held in Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka over the weekend.
With only seven spots available, Uso Tasi joined other top teams such as Wardens, Dominion Brothers, Ravuka Sharks, Devo Babas, Police Blue, and Yaro Chiefs in the prestigious tournament lineup.
Head coach Rupeni Caucau commended the team for their hard work and unity, stressing the importance of confidence and teamwork in achieving success.
He adds coming from a long way from home, the team’s qualification for the Coral Coast 7s marks a significant milestone.
“The team came from far, a long way from home, and getting a chance to qualify for the Coral Coast 7s is a big achievement for the boys, and I’m proud to be part of their journey,” said Caucau.
“I always told the boys to be confident, and work as a team, and everything will fall into place.”
Caucau expressed his pride in being part of the team’s journey and called for support from fans as they prepare for the upcoming competition.
Club owner Carlwyn Tengemoana, a former student of Marist Brothers High School, echoed the sentiments of pride and determination displayed by the players.
Tengemoana mentioned participating in such a high-caliber tournament like the Coral Coast 7s holds great significance for the team, as it not only showcases their talent but also provides invaluable exposure for the players.
The 2026 McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s will be held on the 15th, 16th and 17th of January at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
