Despite the absence of the Great Council of Chiefs, the FijiFirst government implemented equal distribution of leases to all Fijians.
Opposition MP Jone Usamate said this while responding to the ministerial statement by iTaukei Affairs Minister Ifereimi Vasu.
“All the time that we had the GCC before, there was never equal distribution. We treated every iTaukei equally,” Mr Usamate said.
“This Government has now overturned that. They are saying that some iTaukei are more equal than others.
“We say, all iTaukei are equal, they should get equal distribution of leases. That is what I am talking about here.”
Mr Usamate said FijiFirst came up with a concept of lease money for children being kept in trust for their development.
“I am not too sure what is happening on that particular front.”
