The Tailevu women’s team is expecting nothing less than an uphill battle against Naitasiri in round two of the ANZ Marama Championship today.
Captain and centre Vani Bainivalu ranked Naitasiri as one of the tough teams to take on in the competition this season.
Tailevu did not get the start it wanted last weekend, going down 5-46 to Namosi however, the team is adamant of returning to the winning path in this round.
“We are in a rebuilding phase because most of our senior players have joined other teams like Nasinu and Suva this season,” captain Bainivalu stated.
“Majority of our current players are students of Bau College, Sila Central and Lelean Memorial School so we’ve been working on stringing the pieces together, getting them up to speed with our system and adjust to this level of competition.”
Bainivalu added; “We know where our threats come from. We have teams like Naitasiri that are always physical and Suva which has been winning the Marama for the last two seasons.”
The 20-year-old Vunimono lass affirmed that they remain fixed on their goal of maintaining their place in the Marama Championship this season and their young team is ready to tackle whatever challenge comes their way.
Tailevu takes on neighbors Naitasiri at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori at 11am.
