Vodafone Fiji is calling on all commuters to upgrade their eTransport cards by June 30.

Vodafone said the call was part of a nationwide campaign aimed at enhancing the public transportation experience.

It also reassured customers that it was addressing concerns raised about card top-up, redemption, and balance transfer related to the new card system.

“All cardholders must upgrade to the new eTransport Cards by June 30 and it is advisable they do so now to avoid the last-minute rush,” the company stated.

“First-time card registrations and the first replacement remain free.

“If you already hold three or more old cards, a $3 fee applies for each additional card upgrade.

“For non–upgrade replacements (lost or damaged cards), a $3 fee applies once you already have exhausted your two free cards entitlement, and with over 90 per cent smartphone penetration in Fiji, we believe most customers are well positioned to adopt this solution, which was designed to enhance convenience and streamline travel.”

Vodafone also responded to complaints from parents about children being sent back and forth between buses and booths to redeem fares and clarified that only new eTransport cards were redeemable on buses.

“Only the new eTransport cards can be redeemed on the buses, while old cards must be redeemed at any Vodafone, Valuefone, Mr Mobile, Chicken Express or other authorised top-up agent outlet,” it added.

“Therefore, it is in the best interest of the parents and their children to upgrade to the new cards so that the easier and more convenient options are available for top-up, checking card balance and redemption.

“Every stage of our rollout has been carefully planned to minimise inconvenience.

“We understand that adapting to the new eTransport system can be challenging for customers, and we are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for every commuter.”
