Unsettled weather to linger across Fiji

A heavy rain alert remains in force for the entire country as unsettled weather conditions continue to affect the Fiji group.

The Fiji Meteorological Service, in a bulletin issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 5:30am today, said a trough of low pressure lies over the group.

Associated cloud, showers and rain are expected to persist over the next few days, while a north to northeast wind flow continues to prevail.

Forecasts to midnight tonight indicate occasional rain, heavy at times, with a few thunderstorms expected over most parts of the country.

Authorities are warning that localised heavy downpours could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas.

Winds are expected to be moderate to fresh from the north to northeast, with moderate to rough seas.

The weather office is advising the public to remain alert and take necessary precautions as the system continues to influence conditions nationwide.
