PROFESSOR Nigel Healey has been announced as the new vice-chancellor of the Fiji National University, with the New Zealander expected to take up his post in July.
Prof Healey is the pro-vice-chancellor (International) and head of the college of business, law and social sciences at Nottingham Trent University in the UK and is an established academic.
The announcement was made yesterday by the chair and chancellor of FNU Ikbal Jannif who commended Prof Healey’s distinguished academic backgroud, having worked in many universities around the world in different capacities.
“He is an accomplished researcher and has a passion of developing dual sector education. We are confident that given his vast experience and expertise in broad academic fields, he will lead FNU to greater heights,” Mr Jannif said.
Speaking on his new appointment, Professor Healey said he was honoured to have been offered the chance to lead FNU.
“The constituent colleges of FNU have a long and distinguished history of educating the nation and I will do my upmost to achieve the vision we have set for FNU over the next five years,” Prof Healey said.

* Holds a BA (Hons) Economics from the University of Nottingham, an MA economics from the University of Leeds, an MBA from the University of Warwick and DBA from the University of Bath:
* Chartered manager, a fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and the New Zealand Institute of Management and a principal fellow of the higher education academy;
* Member of the board of trustees of the UK council for international student affairs (UKCISA) and the council of the universities and colleges admissions services (UCAS);
* Director for the Australia and New Zealand Academy of management (2008-11) and the association of business schools (2002-04);
* Member of national management committee for the chartered management institute (2002-04); and
* Member of the universities New Zealand committee on international policy (2008-09).
