The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has intercepted a foreign-flagged yacht at Savusavu Port and discovered undeclared firearms and ammunition on board, prompting a formal investigation by the Fiji Police Force.
The vessel, which had submitted an advance notification of arrival earlier this week, was flagged for inspection after FRCS officers identified several risk indicators during routine assessment procedures.
“Several red flags were identified, prompting maritime officers to carry out a targeted inspection of the vessel,” FRCS said in a statement.
The subsequent search uncovered two semi-automatic pistols, 30 CO₂ cartridges, and 1,138 pellets, all of which were undeclared by the yacht’s skipper.
“Under Fiji’s Arms and Ammunition Act, all firearms and ammunition are strictly regulated,” FRCS noted.
“Permits and licences are required, and transit vessels must declare them in advance.”
The case has been handed over to the Fiji Police Force for further investigation.
FRCS has reminded all travellers, particularly yacht owners and international sailors, to ensure complete and accurate declarations when entering Fiji.
“Failure to do so will result in enforcement action under the law,” the agency warned.
FRCS reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Fiji’s borders and upholding all regulatory and security measures.
