About 40 non-governmental organisations, regional institutions, United Nations agencies and other stakeholders gathered at British High Commissioner Dr Brian Jones’ residence in Suva to witness the launch of the United Kingdom government’s new Pacific Partnerships Facility.
In a press statement, the British High Commission in Suva said the launch was conducted with Pacific Development director Jean-Paul Penrose.
The facility will provide accountable grants to not-for-profit organisations across the Pacific to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities to the impacts of the climate emergency.
Mr Penrose encouraged eligible institutions to submit bids to the Pacific Partnerships Facility which would provide grants of between $270,000 and $800,000.
He particularly encouraged proposals which demonstrated how they would deliver tangible benefits for the poorest and most vulnerable communities as those were the groups which bore the greatest burden from the impacts of climate change.
Proposals must be submitted by April 7, 2023.
