DEVELOPMENT of rugby players is an area national under-20 coach Salimoni Ravouvou is working on to match other countries.
He says it was one area he was trying to improve to help Fiji return to tier one of the U20 World Cup Championships.
To solve the problem, he has roped in Fiji Rugby Union’s pathway coaches and former Flying Fijians; Seremaia Bai, Viliame Gadolo and Kele Leawere to assist him in the preparation of the U20 side for the qualifiers in November.
“Some of the boys have been playing from 2014 like Filimoni Savou. We are with the pathway coaches building up the boys in their skills, both mentally and in the technical side because we want to get back to tier one,” Ravouvou said.
“There are gaps in development. I’ve seen in the last World Cup for other countries, the U20 is where they see their mark on the development side of rugby.”
The U20 trophy tournament will be played in Fiji from November 26 to December 10 with Fiji,Tonga and Cook Islands as participating teams.
The winner will qualify for the 2017 World Rugby U20 Trophy and the 2017 Oceania Rugby U20 Championship joining Samoa, New Zealand and Australia.
