The Fiji Football under-16 team has marched into camp at the Fiji FA Academy in Ba as they begin preparations for the Pacific Cup, which kicks off on November 26 and ends on November 30.
Coach Sunil Kumar said the squad is made up mainly of players who travelled to the Solomon Islands earlier this year for the World Cup qualifiers, along with seven players from the under-17 team that recently returned from the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
“The players have marched into camp and the core of the team is made up of the U16 boys who travelled to Solomon Islands for the World Cup qualification, and we have seven players from the U17 who recently returned from the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.”
He confirmed that two players from New Zealand will also join the team to strengthen the squad.
“Two players will join us from New Zealand.”
Kumar said the team is in good health ahead of their departure.
“No major injuries in the team. All players are fine.”
With only a week of preparation left, the team will depart for New Zealand next Wednesday.
Fiji will open their Pacific Cup campaign against Auckland U16 on Thursday, November 27.
