Two former officers from the Fiji Police Force’s Counter Narcotics Bureau have been charged with serious offences.
The charges follow an investigation by the Major Crime Unit in consultation with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The first accused, a 47-year-old former narcotics officer, has been charged with abuse of Office for allegedly engaging in unauthorised financial dealings between January 2023 and December 2024, obtaining a corrupt gain of more than $22,000.
He also received a corrupt benefit in relation to the same transaction.
The second officer, also from the now-discredited bureau, has been charged with one count of Abuse of Office for allegedly leaking confidential investigation documents to an unauthorised third party in July 2024.
Both officers will appear in the Suva Magistrates Court today.
Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu has directed that they be interdicted with immediate effect.
