Two men charged in connection with last week’s violent robbery on Government officials in Vusasivo, Cakaudrove, appeared at the Savusavu Magistrates Court today.
Kavireli Waqa and Sairusi Lebaivalu each face five counts of aggravated robbery and one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.
The pair were arrested following allegations that they assaulted and robbed a team of Government officials during a field visit in the Vusasivo area.
The two, who remain in police custody, were represented by Susana Ben, a lawyer from a private law firm acting on instructions from Kohli & Singh Law Firm.
Magistrate Panapasa Tawake ordered that Waqa and Lebaivalu be remanded in custody, citing the seriousness of the offences and the public interest surrounding the case.
Meanwhile, the Northern Division operations team is continuing its search for a third suspect believed to be involved in the incident, as investigations remain ongoing.
The matter has been adjourned to December 2nd and will be called at the Labasa High Court
