Two men have been charged in connection with the aggravated robbery incident in Vusasivo, Cakaudrove, where government officials were allegedly assaulted and robbed last week.
Police confirmed that the two suspects, aged 25 and 44, are in custody and will appear at the Savusavu Magistrates Court today.
The Northern Division operations team continues to search for a third suspect as investigations remain ongoing.
The attack prompted strong condemnation from Acting Prime Minister Filimoni Vosarogo, who earlier reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the safety and wellbeing of public servants.
“The safety and lives of our civil servants are paramount,” he said, urging civil servants to seek police escorts when deployed to high-risk areas. He revealed that the Commissioner of Police had tasked an operations team from Savusavu to carry out inquiries and make arrests following the incident.
“Government will ensure that all who engage in acts of violence or intimidation against public servants face the full force of the law,” he had said.
