Two alleged drownings reported in Eastern division

Police have recorded two cases of alleged drowning in the Eastern Division within the last 24 hours.

The first incident was reported to the Korovou Police Station and involves a 16-year-old student from Wailevu Village who went missing while swimming in the Wainibuka River yesterday afternoon.

Search efforts were immediately launched but proved unsuccessful, and police say the search will continue today.

In a separate incident, the body of a 25-year-old man from Nasirotu Village was recovered from the Waidina River yesterday afternoon.

Police in Vunidawa are gathering further information to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
