FIJIAN rugby sevens legend Jerry Tuwai has been named the official Tournament Ambassador for the 2026 McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s, set to take place from January 15–17, 2026, at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.
In addition to his ambassadorial role, the two-time Olympic gold medallist will also be inducted into the prestigious Rugby Town Walk of Fame an honour reserved for icons who have made an outstanding contribution to the sport.
In a historic twist for the Coral Coast 7s, Tuwai will not only serve as the face of the tournament but will also lace up his boots once again to play, reprising his role as captain of the McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s team.
Tournament Founding Chairman Jay Whyte said appointing Tuwai as ambassador was an easy decision.
“Jerry Tuwai is really the embodiment of excellence in the game of rugby. He represents everything that the Coral Coast 7s stands for passion, humility, and world-class talent rooted in Fijian spirit. His story inspires players across Fiji and the rugby world. Having him as our ambassador and seeing him play again in front of his home fans, will be an unforgettable experience for everyone.”
Tuwai, a former World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year and national sporting icon, said it was an honour to be recognised both as ambassador and as part of the Walk of Fame.
“It’s an honour to be named ambassador for such a special tournament, and even more so to be recognised on the Walk of Fame in Sigatoka.
“The Coral Coast Fiji 7s is special and it’s where players, young and old, come together to celebrate the true spirit of rugby. I can’t wait to be part of it both on and off the field,” Tuwai said.
The McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s continues to be one of Fiji’s premier rugby sevens festivals, attracting top international teams, world-class athletes, and thousands of fans every year.
The 2026 edition promises to be one of the most exciting in the tournament’s history with Tuwai once again leading from the front, both as a player and an ambassador of the game.
