Fiji Airways Fiji 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau listed fitness as a compulsory factor for players to meet for the Olympic Games team. Double gold medallist Jerry Tuwai is not exempted from this.
Tuwai was given the prerequisite to get his body back in shape before rejoining the Fiji 7s squad and eventually making his HSBC SVNS Series return in Madrid.
The playmaker is aware that to make the final selection he needs to get his fitness up to par and meet the standard Kolinisau requires.
“I’ve been pushing myself in everything, diet, physically, running and I’m tired. As I speak to you now, I want to sleep and that’s how hard I’ve been training and pushing myself,” he said.
This level is not new for the 7s magician as he understands what must be done to get the job done at the pinnacle of all sports.
But despite what most may think about his current form, Tuwai stands ready to take Fiji to another golden finish on the podium in Paris.
“I’m always ready for the call of our Government and country to represent our beloved nation at the biggest stage in the world which is the Olympics.”
Tuwai is one of the remaining 20 on Kolinisau’s list before a further five are axed from the squad this week.
The Fiji 7s team will depart for Paris on July 1 and is set to face France in its opening pool match on July 24 at Stade de France. || Fiji 7s || FIJI Airways Fiji 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau lis
