FORMER captain Jerry Tuwai is embracing a new challenge as assistant coach of the Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s team, shifting his mindset from player to mentor.

Speaking to the press yesterday, Tuwai said his approach has evolved, focusing on addressing weaknesses from recent tournaments while adding technical and tactical attacking structure.

After a week with the squad, Tuwai noted a clear change in how players relate to him, with boundaries now established.

“I’m thankful to the boys for honouring that boundary from a player to a coach, “he said.

Despite this, a strong mutual understanding remains, allowing him to connect easily with both experienced and new players as Fiji builds towards the upcoming Spain 7s Championship.
