Tuvere digs deep for gold win

AFTER a close race with his rivals from various secondary schools, Iosefo Tuvere of Nakasi High School won a gold medal in the intermediate boys 800m finalduring the Coca-Cola Games Triple N Zone athletics meet at the HFC Bank Stadium in suva recently.

Tuvere revealed that witnessing his teammate touch his knee and feeling the pain in the last lap of the race motivated him to keep up the lead and accelerate so they can defend their 800-metre title.

“Once I saw my friend slowing down in the last lap of the race, I told myself that I have to win this race so our school and defend the title in the 800m intermediate boys title,” Tuvere stated.

He said the struggles he faced during preparation over the past few weeks have paid off.

“During my preparation, I always had strong faith that I would win this event,” Tuvere admitted.

Now that Tuvere is shifting his focus to the Coca-Cola Games, he shared that he will need to improve his running time and overall speed.

“This is not the end. Once we return to school, I will strengthen my training techniques so I can perform even better at this year’s Fiji Finals,” Tuvere said.

Tuvere dedicated his achievement to his mother for her endless support and to his late father, whom he believes is watching him from heaven.
