Turuva scores 20 points in Nadi win

NADI fullback Setareki Turuva was the man of the match as he scored 20 points in the side’s 30-12 win over Tailevu in the Skipper Cup at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday.

Turuva scored two tries, kicked two conversions and three penalties.

Nadi back line worked overtime and created havoc for Tailevu.

Tailevu was forced into mistakes which Nadi capitalised on.

Turuva scored for Nadi in the opening minute to give his side a 7-0 lead before Tailevu replied through lock Delai Tamanikula.

Nadi led 14-7 at half-time with a try from Lote Nasiga after getting a neat pass from the flank.

Tailevu were further punished in the second half with two more tries from Turuva and one from Nasiga.

Tailevu scored a consolation try through wing Josua Vici at full-time.

Nadi coach Usaia Koroivunilagi was satisfied with the win.

“We had a bunch of boys from the under-20 last year and they were part of the team. Now we are doing the development for the vanua of Nadi,” he said.

“We need to improve on the set-pieces especially our line-outs and scrums before we tackle Naitasiri.

“We had a fast back line so that helped us to score more tries.”

Tailevu coach Jone Kaila said the mistakes cost them dearly.

“We had six players from under-20 and it was a new platform for them.

“We have seen our weakness today and try to rectify the mistakes and move on.” he said.
