Maintain decorum and keep your integrity as a member of Parliament (MP).
This was the message extended by Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga as he addressed his fellow members during his maiden speech.
He stressed that MPs must avoid disgraceful and contemptible conduct, as well as accord the House a high level of dignity and respect.
“May I impress upon the members of this house to maintain decorum in the way we conduct ourselves in addressing issues in this house,” he asked.
“In this respect, I salute the steadfastness and the level of integrity committed to the rule of law displayed by His Excellency the President, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, prior to and after the election.”
He maintained that the rule of law simply stated that no one was above the law.
Mr Turaga said this must be applied across all arms of Government.
