COMMONWEALTH Youth Games 2008 weightlifting gold medallist Manueli Tulo wed his long time sweetheart and former Fiji rep Maria Liku at Baba, Levuka, Ovalau last week.

The wedding ceremony took place at their residence in Baba and attended by family members and friends.

“It was time we made it official,” Tulo, who competed in the 2018 Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast, Australia, said.

The 2008 Fiji Sportsman of the Year said it was a blessing for him and his family to watch members of their community and family come together to celebrate the couple’s new beginning at Baba, Levuka.

“We had family members, friends and colleagues who came from all over Fiji to make our union a memorable one.”

Tulo said they had been planning the nuptials since the end of the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and finally had set a date.

Tulo, who was among elite weightlifters banned by Weightlifting Fiji last year because of internal differences, has been looking at the possibility of representing Vanuatu in weightlifting.

“Discussions are ongoing and it is very much still on the table.

“At the moment, I want to enjoy life with my wife and two children and take in as much as I can before proceeding further on future possibilities.”
