Tulo eyes good outing

TEAM Fiji weight-lifter Manueli Tulo is geared up to give his best shot at the Rio Olympics.

The 25-year-old who first participated at the 2012 Olympics said it was special to represent the country at the world’s largest sporting festival.

He said he would give his best and try and improve from where he left off in the last Olympics.

“It’s very special competing at the Olympic Games as this is a pinnacle moment for any athlete for his nation,” said Tulo.

“It’s a humbling experience and a lifetime achievement to treasure.

“I am delighted to be given another chance to represent the country despite a lapse of two years.”

After competing at the past Olympics, Tulo decided to spend more time with his young family at the expense of training and camping.

He said during these two years the thought of returning to weight-lifting always popped out from his mind.

“For two years I wanted to concentrate on my family as I always missed them on most occasions to training and games.

“But I believe the sport is in my blood as I had been playing the game from an early age. This really pushed me to return to the gym and reset my focus.”

He said hard work and commitment enabled him to reach this far.

“After returning from two years break, I didn’t waste any time as I was focused on my training that led me to win back my spot in the national team.”

The 2008 Fiji Sportsman of the Year said his first target for the Rio Games was to do well in his first lift on Tuesday.
