LEGAL practitioner Tomasi Tuitoga has been appointed as an independent director of the Shreedhar Motors Limited (SML) board.

His appointment now completes the board composition required for listing on the South Pacific Stock Exchange (SPX).

Mr Tuitoga joins Bruce Sutton and Fantasha Lockington who were appointed as SML’s independent directors in January early this year.

With 28 years of broad commercial, advisory and litigation experience, his practice spans commercial transactions, insurance matters, construction law, employment, property and complex commercial disputes.

He has also held senior roles at two of Fiji’s leading law firms, and is now a partner at Haniff Tuitoga.

Mr Tuitoga holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Tasmania and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Australian National University; and he is admitted to the High Court of Fiji, the High Court of Australia, and the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory.

SML board chairman Satya Maharaj welcomed Mr Tuitoga, saying his extensive legal, regulatory and governance background would strengthen the board’s oversight capability as the company entered a new phase of growth and public accountability.

Mr Maharaj said the three independent directors collectively brought a balanced mix of legal, financial, industry and community leadership experience.

Mr Tuitoga’s appointment took effect immediately and was formally acknowledged at the company’s official listing last week.
