Tui Namosi Ratu Suliano Matanitobua has expressed support for President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu’s call for chiefs to practise what they preach.

During the traditional welcome ceremony accorded by the GCC members on Monday, the Tui Cakau said chiefs were beginning to take advantage of their people.

He also encouraged the chiefs to seek a good education to enable them to serve at all levels of their community.

Ratu Suliano said his understanding was that the advice was rendered with pure intentions and in consideration of the people.

He said through their history together in the political setting, he had come to know Ratu Naiqama as a man of great calibre and wisdom, who was equipped with years of experience in serving the nation.

“I fully support the call made by the President,” he said.

“I have worked alongside him in Parliament and Government, where we served as ministers during the SDL era and were Opposition MPs for eight years.

“We often shared insights on these issues, and I wholeheartedly support his recent statements.

“I am particularly pleased because he spoke about matters in which he has considerable experience.

“I support him in emphasising our responsibility to lead our vanua and asserting that unity and collaboration on the concerns and topics affecting our people are essential.

“Now, it’s up to us (GCC) to put that advice into practice so they can benefit our people.”
