THE Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu acknowledged the contribution of the security sector towards the tourism industry in terms of providing guests with a safe experience when visiting Fiji’s shores.
The security sector heaped accolades during the hotel monthly security council meeting held at Radisson Blu Resort in Nadi on August 29.
This initiative brought together heads of security of major hotels in Nadi alongside the Tourist Police Unit to openly discuss the current challenges across the tourism sector.
Mr Tudravu noted the strong post-pandemic recovery of the tourism industry, with visitor arrivals from January to July surpassing 500,000.
“This was a collective achievement where security played a big role even if it’s not often acknowledged most of the time,” he said.
“Recovering from the global pandemic took collective will, heightened level of trust in the business community where investing in Fiji is a sound investment.”
Mr Tudravu also recognised the continuous partnership between the Fiji Police Force and hotel security teams, emphasising the need for collaboration.
Participants were reminded of the power of social media and how a few recent incidents have put key tourism stakeholders, including the police, on high alert.
“We will be better positioned to face shared challenges together through the enhanced sharing of information.”
