Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has strongly advised parents, particularly iTaukei parents, to cut down on their social obligations and focus on their children’s education.
While acknowledging their efforts towards their education, Mr Tudravu told the Nakauvadra High School cadet passing-out parade last week that parents must do more to truly know their children, to understand them and support their ambitions.
“To you parents, thank you for supporting your child’s education,” he said.
“Our role as parents is to support them in realising their potential.
“Let’s cut down on social obligations, and other things we usually commit most of our time to.”
Mr Tudravu said if parents didn’t attend a wedding or a tevutevu, those social events would continue with or without their participation.
“But when there are issues with how you raise your child, their future will be affected,” he added.
