Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu is urging people to refrain from spewing hateful comments online when discussing the death of Dr Isireli Biumaitotoya.

He told the media in Nadi yesterday to let investigators do their work.

“First of all, I want to make it clear we did not comment first on this issue,” he said.

“It is just the respect, so we did not comment on it, but it came out first on social media.

“But we have started off with the process of our investigation.”

Mr Tudravu confirmed a post-mortem examination was carried out yesterday.

He reiterated the call by the Prime Minister this week against spreading hateful speech over the doctor’s death.

“I want to reiterate our request to people not to comment on the death of the doctor. I urge people to be cautious.

“Can we please respect the family of the deceased.

“Let the investigation continue and that we do not unnecessarily comment on social media.”

Dr Isireli’s body was found by a work colleague on Monday afternoon. His death is being treated as murder.
