The Fiji National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) will be issuing a Tsunami Advisory in the next few hours regarding a 8.8 magnitude tsunami off the east coast of Petropavlovsk – Kamchatka, Russia.
Radio New Zealand reported on the initial arrival time of the tsunami into the Pacific tonight.
“It is said the estimated time of arrival of the initial tsunami wave to Tonga’s coastline is about 9.25pm local time,” RNZ reports.
According to RNZ a tsunami watch has also been issued in FIji for all low-lying areas where strong currents are predicted.
“Tsunami waves reaching 0.3 to one metre above the tide level are possible for some coasts of Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji…”
Hawaii is anticipated to be the first impacted by waves at around 5.17pm local time.
Queries regarding preparation in Fiji have been made to the NDMO and they’ve assured to be releasing an advisory soon.
The expected Tsunami in Russia is amongst the strongest recorded so far.
