The Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) team will visit all Year 12 and 13 students from September 4 to October 4 to create awareness of the educational opportunities available to them.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro highlighted this at the TSLS Principals, Careers Teachers, and Student Representative workshop in Nadi on Wednesday.
“I provide my best wishes to TSLS as they embark on nationwide stakeholder and public awareness forums and request that you partner with TSLS,” the minister said.
“Please use that opportunity.”
Mr Radrodro also thanked the service’s board and management team for this week’s awareness program and workshop.
“You all play an instrumental role by being leaders and ambassadors in your own schools and communities.
“We all know that different students have different capabilities, and as such proper guidance is required.”
The minister urged the principals present at the workshop to lead scholarship awareness in their school communities.
“While students are at liberty to pursue their dream fields, and choose their qualification, your direction is equally important.
“Your presence today is not ‘it’s just another workshop’, but to use the information provided to mold your students to make informed decisions that will allow them to pursue their dreams.
“Employment market dynamics are rapidly changing, and the current generation of senior secondary school students have different views on employment careers compared to 10 to 20 years back.
This signals that the careers section of the ministry and career teachers need to be ahead of their game in having employment knowledge of today and tomorrow.”
