The Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Service (TSLS) says allowances have been paid out to students who are actively enrolled for courses, with names submitted to TSLS by higher education institutions in the country.
At present, there are 13,078 students within the active bond period under various TSLS schemes.
Out of this number, as many as 11,813 students are on allowance while the remaining 1265 students are on tuition only.
TSLS stated that allowances were paid based on the academic term in two batches.
In the first batch, 50 per cent of the eligible allowance is given at the commencement of the academic term.
For the second batch, the remaining 50 per cent of the eligible allowance is given by the mid-term break.
According to TSLS, the allowance payment is dependent on the number of units and/or courses students are enrolled in.
TSLS also stated that all enrolled students whose names were submitted to TSLS were paid the first 50 per cent of their eligible allowances for semester two and the third quarter.
As per guidelines, the allowance is paid if students meet two conditions.
The first is for students to be properly enrolled or registered for courses/units with an active status.
Additionally, the higher education institutions need to submit the names of students in an enrolment report to TSLS, which also confirms the units/courses.
The organisation stated that the first batch allowance has been paid to students whose name had been received by TSLS.
These higher education institutions provide names to TSLS on a weekly basis, so the allowances of students who are enrolling late will be released as names are received.
