University of the South Pacific academic Dr Shailendra Singh has posted on his social media page that Fiji Truth and Reconciliation Commission Chair Dr Marcus Brand is leaving the position.
He has stated a farewell event was held this week.
Dr Singh noted that friends and colleagues gathered to honour Dr Brand at a dinner hosted by EU Ambassador Barbara Plinkert and German Ambassador Dr Andreas Prothmann at the EU Ambassador’s Residence.
He said Dr Brand leaves Fiji “having made a strong impact” during his tenure, adding that his leadership has “laid a solid foundation for the work ahead” as the Commission continues its mandate.
“He will be missed,” Dr Singh wrote.
“Marcus leaves as he departs for family reasons. Marcus is keen to return and continue contributing in any way he can, having grown attached to Fiji and the friends he’s made here.”
The Fiji Times has send questions to Dr Brand.
