The truck driver responsible for the illegal dumping of rubbish near the Waiyavi Waterfall has been identified following a thorough investigation by Lautoka City Council’s Litter Prevention Officers.
Lautoka City Council confirmed that the truck owner has accepted full responsibility for the offence and has agreed to carry out the clean-up of the affected area.
The offender has also been issued a spot fine under the Litter Promulgation Act 2010, which has since been paid.
Head of Service, Salend Singh, said the Council takes environmental protection seriously and will continue to work closely with relevant stakeholders to safeguard natural sites within the city.
“Lautoka City Council is committed to protecting our environment and ensuring that natural attractions such as Waiyavi Waterfall are kept clean and preserved for the community,” Singh said.
Council officials reiterated that enforcement efforts will continue to deter illegal dumping and irresponsible waste disposal.
The Council has also issued a strong reminder to members of the public and commercial operators to dispose of waste responsibly and in strict compliance with Council regulations.
