The Fiji Meteorological Service yesterday called on Fijians to prepare for another round of rain and flooding as a result of adverse weather related to a new tropical disturbance.
Tropical Disturbance TD12F was located west of Vanuatu yesterday and the associated trough of low pressure with the system extended towards the northwest of Fiji.
A statement from Fiji Met confirmed rain would have developed yesterday afternoon.
“A flash flood warning remains in force for the flood-prone areas, small streams, and low-lying areas on Vanua Levu.
It is now in force for the flood-prone areas, small streams, and low-lying areas of Viti Levu,” the statement read.
“Low-lying and flood-prone locations may experience flash floods as a result of localised heavy rainfall.”
“The ground has been saturated with continuous rain for the past couple of days.
This increases the risk of flash flooding and also landslides.”
