The Fiji Meteorological Service says Tropical Cyclone Urmil was located approximately 520 kilometres southwest of Nadi at 6am this morning.

Urmil is tracking southeastward and has increased its forward speed, moving at around 30 kilometres per hour.

While the centre of the cyclone is not expected to pass directly over Fiji, weather officials say rainbands and strong winds associated with the system are already affecting parts of the country.

The Weather Office is strongly urging the public to remain alert and to continue following all official weather warnings issued from Nadi, along with advisories from National Disaster Management Office.

Authorities have reminded communities, especially those in low-lying and coastal areas, to remain cautious as unsettled weather conditions persist.
