The Public Service Commission (PSC) is mourning the loss of permanent secretary Parmesh Chand, who died on Friday.
In a statement, PSC chairperson Luke Rokovada expressed his deep sadness over Mr Chand’s death, paying tribute to a man who dedicated much of his life to improving Fiji’s public service and promoting good governance.
“Mr Chand was a true pillar of strength, a gentle giant whose unwavering commitment to justice and humanity touched the lives of many,” Mr Rokovada said.
“His willingness to share his insights and perspectives on a wide range of issues played a significant role in advancing the welfare of our people.
“He was always ready to offer his support whenever called upon.”
Mr Chand was widely respected for his leadership and vision, having spearheaded major reforms across the public service.
He played a key role in establishing significant national initiatives such as the Fiji Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the Fiji Learning Institute for Public Service (FLIPS), the Higher Salaries Commission, and a range of civil service retention policies.
These initiatives were considered transformative, which made a turning point in how public institutions functioned and served the Fijian people.
“His legacy of principled leadership and steadfast commitment to good governance will continue to inspire and guide the institutions he helped established and the many individuals whose lives he touched,” Mr Rokovada added.
